1V1 SKILLS WITHOUT THE BALL

1v1 Football skills without the ball for every player. Whether you are a striker, midfielder or defender, every professional player knows these 4 (defending skills) without the ball.

BODY POSITIONING – Keep low when facing the attacker so you can allow for quick adjustments of your feet. Have a side-on stance so you can show them one way e.g. down the line or inside.

MAKE IT PREDICTABLE – Force the attacker onto their weaker foot to make their attempts to get past you more predictable and easier for you to recover the ball.

KEEP THEM MOVING AWAY FROM THE GOAL – If the attacker is facing away from the goal, apply pressure and do not allow them to turn back and face you.

DON’T DIVE IN – Stand up to the attacker to not only delay the attack, but also to not give up your position by diving in and get beaten easily. It can be useful to use feints and certain movements to trick the attacker so you can recover the ball. These are the best and easiest defending skills and tips.
